Is there anything about your character that would be listed in intelligence reports? as a demolitions expert, Val was/is frequently courted by the Orlesian army to assist them in their war efforts and stuff. he refuses every time, usually by pretending to be too busy. he was almost press-ganged into service, or whatever the nobleman equivalent of getting press-ganged is. he fled civilized Orlais and he hasn't been back since, but on paper he says he's doing field work. when he faked his own death, he actually did it to avoid a marriage proposal: Océane Rose-Marie Dembélé, of the Dembélé academics. can't get married if you're dead!
