Byerly is a spy. This means two things: (1) he has access to more information than the average new character; (2) he may act in devious and underhanded ways against current PCs and NPCs. I do not do not want to overstep any bounds with this. Please fill out the permissions post below. If you do not fill it out, then I will assume all questions below are a blanket "no."




<b>Is there gossip about your character Byerly should know?</b> Byerly has an encyclopedic knowledge of gossip that would be circulated in Ferelden high society. He also most likely knows any gossip that has been circulated in Orlesian high society. He also plausibly might have heard things from the courts of the Northern nations. If there's anything about your character that might have reached his ear (beyond what's listed on your info page), please put it here. <b>Can he bring this up in private conversation with your character?</b> <b>Can he bring this up publicly?</b> <b>Is there anything about your character that would be listed in intelligence reports?</b> Ferelden intelligence keeps reports on members of the Inquisition. (Note that Ferelden intelligence isn't super-sophisticated yet; they would not have access to all your character's secrets. You can pick and choose which ones you want to be known.) Byerly would have read these reports before coming to the Inquisition. Is there gossip about your character Byerly should know? So for the Black Sails captains, we basically just decided we'd c/p their reputations from canon to the AU. So if Byerly's up on Tevinter gossip, he'd definitely know Vane's rep as a scary pirate captain. I don't know how far that would reach southern courts, we kind of just left that up for people to decide on a case by case basis. But you know Black Sails and Vane, so you do whatever sounds good for you, booboo. I doubt there'd be as many specific things like battles and etc, maybe HIGHLIGHT FOR S2 SPOILERS: [ the annihilation/leveling of Charlestown or whatever the Tevene equivalent is lmao. ] But yeah, whatever works for you.

Can he bring this up publicly? Yeeerp. Vane won't care but the other pirates might get pissy about being outed.

Is there anything about your character that would be listed in intelligence reports? The pirates in general are a sensitive spot for the Inquisition at the moment, and they've had to do work to justify the pirates being in Inquisition employ (the successful rescue mission helped better the image a lot), but there would be files on Vane at least, given he has a pretty intense reputation as a criminal.

Can he bring this up in private conversation with your character? Yar

Can he bring this up publicly? Yar, again, other pirates might be pissed but Vane won't care.

Would you be open to Byerly blackmailing your character? Lololol he can try, Charles has so little shame. I'd honestly love to see him threaten to blackmail Vane with something, just so he can pointedly pick up the crystal, and announce whatever the blackmail information is to the entire Inquisition.

Would you be open to Byerly deceiving your character and tricking them into acting against Inquisition interests/their own interests? Ya!!! Though, if Vane realizes he did it, be prepared for having to jump through hoops to ensure he doesn't brutally murder him.

Would you be open to Byerly drugging and/or interrogating your character? Go for it. Drugging would def be better than trying to interrogate by any other means.

Would you be open to Byerly uncovering new information about your character's past/present? Sure!! The slave part isn't public knowledge or anything that would be in files or rumors, but if he can dig deep enough, he'll find that. Or, lmao, just see Vane shirtless, given the brand on his chest and the whip scars on his back.

Is your character interested in espionage/engaged in espionage? Tbh, he's nooooot very good at it. Better to ask Silver.

Could they be cultivated into an intelligence asset for Ferelden - e.g., seduced and/or bribed into giving information willingly? Prooooobably not, it's really gd hard to get Vane to part with anything he doesn't want to without a lot of benefit.
