Byerly is a spy. This means two things: (1) he has access to more information than the average new character; (2) he may act in devious and underhanded ways against current PCs and NPCs. I do not do not want to overstep any bounds with this. Please fill out the permissions post below. If you do not fill it out, then I will assume all questions below are a blanket "no."

Date: 2018-10-29 02:28 am (UTC)- The battle between the feared General of the Red Templars and just a handful of brave Inquisition warriors has probably been repeated with all sorts of embellishment, including a story about the Iron Bull drinking the blood from his severed head. Ghastly!
- After his capture and transfer to Skyhold, he was dissected (or vivisected, depending on the morbid appetite of the storyteller) for research. Gruesome, but it was for science.
- No he wasn't, he was fed to the gryphons. A fitting end.
- No he wasn't! He was taken to Skyhold for rehabilitation... as young templars, he and Cullen shared a room in Kirkwall (actually true), so clearly this is a case of old lovers being reunited under tragic circumstances. So romantic!
- Actually, he was imprisoned, and recently he was transported to the Free Marches for proper judgment by his own people - but the travelling party was surprised by a rift/bandits/darkspawn/red templars/a dragon, and he used that as a distraction to escape! The Reds will become stronger, everyone is doomed, etc.
Can he bring this up in private conversation with your character?
Yes.
Can he bring this up publicly?
Yyyes.
Is there anything about your character that would be listed in intelligence reports?
He's not a member of the Inquisition, but he has been doing penance other than rotting in a dungeon cell, with Commander Cullen as his handler.
The most accessible reports (i.e. very difficult but not impossible to acquire, unlike the Commander's own records) track the progress of his health in being slowly reintroduced to blue lyrium. He appears to have a strong tolerance to the lyrium, estimated to be two to three times that of other men. It's unknown if this is a result of his prior addiction, prolonged exposure to red lyrium, or a unique biological resistance (actually it's all three). Somehow, his cognitive ability has not been permanently damaged by the addiction, withdrawal, OR by the red lyrium, which is extremely unusual.
If there is more sciencey stuff he can and would try to get his hands on, you may have to ask the mods for it.
Can he bring this up in private conversation with your character?
He can, but he would have to tread lightly.
Can he bring this up publicly?
He can but it might get him in a lot of trouble.
Would you be open to Byerly blackmailing your character?
If he can even find effective blackmail material at this point, sure.
Would you be open to Byerly deceiving your character and tricking them into acting against Inquisition interests/their own interests?
Whoops, skipped this one somehow. ahem. YES sure why not.
Would you be open to Byerly drugging and/or interrogating your character?
Lord. Can't imagine why he'd want to, but sure.
Would you be open to Byerly uncovering new information about your character's past/present?
Absolutely, if you want to go there we can hash it out.
Is your character interested in espionage/engaged in espionage?
Not even slightly, unless Byerly somehow becomes able to guarantee the safety of his Tranquil friend, Maddox (still working with the Reds, somewhere out there).
Could they be cultivated into an intelligence asset for Ferelden - e.g., seduced and/or bribed into giving information willingly?
This prrrrobably doesn't apply to him. Maybe. I don't know. Feel free to seduce him though, heh heh (he wishes)
Is there anything else I should know?
Not sure where else this might fit in or if it's even relevant, BUT, the story of Samson's expulsion from the Order and subsequent mage-smuggling hobo lifestyle is well known among those connected to the templars in Kirkwall, and has probably spread wider since he joined the Elder One's ranks. Here is a helpful wiki link if you need it. Actually he can probably dig up pretty much anything about Samson's life if he tries hard and believes in himself.
ALSO, he has been exchanging personal letters with Merrill over the last year-and-some.
Is any of this even useful, I don't know, but hopefully it has been at least passingly entertaining.
