Vanadi, Noon and I were leaving a tavern tonight when we came across a man in a heavy cloak attempting to strangle an elven girl. I stuck with the girl while Vanadi and Noon went after the perp, who gave them the slip in Hightown.

I took the girl back home to the alienage, where there was no guard on duty but the gate was locked. The girl's family told me that another girl went missing recently and the Watch determined she was a runway which sounds like bullshit, honestly. They asked that off the Watch is involved were keeping the family it of it, and I gave my word.

It's not uncommon for people to go missing from the alienage. Of course, our esteemed City Watch would never decide that such cases aren't worth investigating and make up an easy story so they could absolve themselves of any guilt [ the sarcasm is palpable ] but perhaps there's nothing sinister to their refusal to investigate.

Maybe, but there's something goin' on. The unmanned gate tells me that much, and I was there long enough that if it was just someone going to take a piss, they'd have been back before I left.
