You wouldn't have guilt if you were truly wicked.

Hmm. Well, then I'm one of those insufferable types that you see in operas. Lamenting their wicked deeds, but unable to stop themselves. Don't you hate them? They have those long recitatives...

[fairforce]

I'll have to take you at your word. I'm not familiar enough with operas to know the type.

[bouchonne]

Really? How many operas have you seen?

[fairforce]

One?

[bouchonne]

Lady Seeker, I demand four - no, six - evenings over the next two months.

Oh, I don't know...

[ A Leaderly Voice: ]

[She laughs.]

Oh, don't! Six is so many!

Six nights of having the Ambassador's ear to bend as you will. There are some who would kill for the opportunity.

Mm, but hopefully I'll be too busy enjoying myself. And the Ambassador will be too busy explaining the operas to be in between scenes.

Maker, that sounds like an amazing time.

[fairforce]

It does, doesn't it? I'm so pleased you thought to force me into going.

Are operas performed in Kirkwall?

[bouchonne]

Of course! This city is dull, but not that dull. And it certainly wasn't my intention to do a one-man performance of the classics; while that would be a far superior way to experience them, I don't have all the costumes.

[fairforce]

But that sounds so amusing! Surely you could improvise some costumes. We used to do plays on Funalis with old robes and things, and we were children--and not nearly as imaginative as I'm sure you are.

[bouchonne]

Lady Seeker! You used to be an actress? How could you withhold this vital information!

[fairforce]

I was not an actress! I was a child, standing as still as I could, pretending to be a tree.

[bouchonne]

An impossibly demanding role. I'd never even dream of a part as rigorous as tree.

[ There's an undeniable sort of warmth in his teasing. A wicked and irredeemable man, indeed. ]

Is it the standing still that stymies you, or the part where your back is to the audience for most of the scene?
